Willie Nelson and reggae might seem at first to be an unlikely match.
Upon further thought, though, Nelson's laid-back sensibility, subtle
rhythmic lilt, and stoner image make his reggae album, COUNTRYMAN, seem in retrospect like an inevitability. Instead of adding his distinctive jazzy drawl and ragged guitar to a batch of reggae classics, though, Willie mostly keeps it country amid the Kingston grooves, delivering many of his own songs, as well a couple by Johnny Cash and reggae giant Jimmy Cliff.
Produced by Don Was, these tracks mostly feature L.A. session musicians doing a credible approximation of early-'70s Cliff/Toots & the
Maytals-style roots reggae, while Willie remains unflappable atop the
rhythmic change-up of the arrangements. These sessions actually sat in the can for about eight years before finally seeing the light of day, but anyone who ever wondered what bleak, ruminative Nelson chestnuts
such as "Darkness on the Face of the Earth" and "I've Just Destroyed
the World" would sound like with the added emotional contrast of a

Willie
Nelson-The Great Divide
Variety has been the spice
of Willie Nelson’s life over his last five or so albums, as he’s
covered everything from blues to reggae and the Muppers. So perhaps
that’s why “The Great Divide” is such a surprising turn: It’s his
most polished, commercially minded CD since 1993’s “Across The
Borderline”. He’s even offering star studded collaborations by the
barrelful “Maria” featuring Matchbox Twenty singer Rob Thomas carries
Mexicali overtones “Mendocino County Line” is a heavily orchestrated
duet with Lee Ann Womack that basks in melancholy; and “Last Stand In
Open Country” finds Willie and rapper rowdy Kid Rock harmonizing on a
rebel Western pop song that wouldn’t be out of place on a Bon Jovi
album. Other duet partners include soul crooner Brian McKnight and beloved
blues-rocker Bonnie Raitt.
Even when he goes it alone,
the ever-unpredictable Willie keeps us guessing. He radiates old-soul
wisdom on his version of Cindy Lauper “Time After Time” and offers a
take on the Kenny Rogers & The First Edition classic “Just Dropped
In. The Great Divide adventurous flavor serves notice that at 68, Willie
Nelson is a hungry as ever for creative challenges.

Rainbow
Connection
The Rainbow Connection was
originally planed to be a children’s CD. My daughter Amy had been trying
to get me to do a children’s CD for 20 years. Rainbow Connection was one
of the songs that she wanted me to record. I kept saying I would but never
did. Last Christmas we all got together at World Headquarters’ in Luck,
Texas my daughter Amy, Paula, and Suzie along with Matt Hubbard, David
Zettner, Gabe Rhodes and all residents of Luck; John, Rick, Ed, Kal, and
Tonye, who are also important link to Rainbow connection.

A&E's Live By Request Starring Willie Nelson.
Willie
Nelson takes center stage for a very special evening of live music in A&E's
Live By Request Starring Willie Nelson. Singer/songwriter Willie
Nelson is a musical legend. Since recording his first single in 1957, he
has given birth to concept albums (his first, Yesterday's Wine, was
recorded in 1971), gospel albums, jazz albums, music soundtracks, myriad
duet projects, Christmas albums, live albums, and an album of standards
(1978's Stardust, which has become a standard in itself). His
breakthrough album, 1975's The Red Headed Stranger, was recently
reissued in a 25th anniversary edition, which includes bonus tracks as
part of Sony Nashville/Legacy Recordings' American Milestone Series. Since
hitting the music scene, Willie Nelson has penned and sung hits that have
become part of the American fabric, including Patsy Cline's
"Crazy," which he wrote; Elvis Presley's "Always on My
Mind," which he rerecorded; and "To All the Girls I've Loved
Before," which he sang in a duet with Julio Iglesias.

On September 12, Willie Nelson will release his first blues
album, Milk Cow Blues (Island Records). The album features such musical
guests as B.B. King, Susan Tedeschi, Dr. John, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and
Jonny Lang, performing Nelson songs and blues standards such as
"Crazy" (with Tedeschi) and "The Thrill is Gone" (with
B.B. King).
