Born Orvon Gene Autry 9/29/07 in Tioga Springs Texas. Worked as a cowboy and telegrapher for the Frisco Railroad after attending Ravia High School in Oklahoma. Played saxophone with the fields Brothers Medicine Show. Then switched to guitar so he could sing along. Sang on KVOO Tulsa from 1929-30 recorded for ACR and Victor. Worked the WLS Chicago "National Barn Dance" and vaudeville from 1930-34 First film appearance "Old Santa Fe" in 1934 Made over 90 other starring films beginning with "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" Very popular "Melody Ranch" Radio series began on CBS on 1/7/40. Inlisted in the Army Air Force Corps from September 1945 until 1956 Owner of several record companies and the California Angels baseball team. Wrote "That Silver Haired Daddy Of Mine" "Back In The Saddle Again" "Here Come Santa Claus" and may others. Elected to the Country Music Hall Of Fame in 1989
