1968 CMA Winners
CMA Awards History The First Country Music Association (CMA) Awards didn’t start out as a splashy, Media-frenzied event that we know today. In fact, the inaugural CMA’s, held October 19 1967, where not even televised. The music Industry gathered at Nashville’s Municipal Auditorium, where guests were treated to a banquet, a show and an awards ceremony hosted by Sonny James and Bobbie Gentry. Among the historic first winners were Eddy Arnold, Entertainer Of The year, and Loretta Lynn, who was named the year’s top Female Vocalist. But the night surly belonged to Jack Green, who won Male Vocalist and single of the Year for “There Goes My Everything”. The event continued to grow under the CMA’s Awards guidance. In 1969, the awards were televised live for the first time, and now the CMA Awards telecast is one of the highest rated TY specials each year.
