Words To The Song Forty Shades Of Green
Words And Music By Johnny Cash
I Close My Eyes And Picture The
Emerald Of The Sea
From The Fishing Boats At Dingle To The Shores Of Dundee
I Miss The River Shannon And Folks At Skipa-Ree
The Moor Lands And The Midlands With Their Forty Shads Of Green
Verse
But Most Of All I Miss A Girl In
Tipperary Town
And Most Of All I Miss Her Lips As Soft As Eider Down
Again I Want To See And Do The Things We've Done And Seen
Where The Breeze Is Sweet As Shalimar And There's Forty Shades Of Green
I Wish I Could Spend An Hour At
Dublin's Churning Surf
I'd Love To Watch The Framers Drain The Bogs And Spade the Turf
To See Again The Thatching Of The Straw The Women Glean
I'd Walk From Cork To Liarn To See Their Forty Shades Of Green
O
Shalamar, thou quiet Shalamar,
Close from thy feet the plains stretch out afar
To the distant trees; the creaking guda creeps
Up to thy gates; the drowsy traveler sleeps
Beneath thy shade. Through winding mango groves
The peacock seeks his mate, and shrieks his loves
To thy echoing walls. Here is a resting place.
There the cool, fountained waters interlace.
Spirits of kings and queens of long ago
Through the silent shady walks pass to and fro;
Out on the plains four hundred years have swept
And gone; within, four hundred years have slept,
And sleep - aye, sleep on still in Shalamar,
Where from the walls the plains stretch out afar.

History Of
Ireland
Irish liberation from
British rule was achieved as the result of a struggle extending over several centuries and
marked by numerous rebellions. Following the Easter rebellion, an uprising of Irish
nationalists on Easter Monday, April 24, 1916 Sinn Fein became the most influential
political party in Ireland. This party, founded in 1900 by Author Griffith, a Dublin
journalist, campaigned in the Parliamentary election of 1918 on a program that called for
the severance of all ties with Great Britain, an end to the separatist movement in
Northern Ireland, and the establishment of an Irish republic Candidates of Sinn Fein won
73 of the 106 seats allotted to Ireland in the Britain Parliament The Irish Revolution (
1919-22 )
